Santana

Carlos Augusto Alves Santana is a Mexican/American who grew in popularity in the late 1960’s and early 70’s from his band Santana.
He was born in Autlan De Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico. Carlos first started to play the violin at age five and around age 8 he started to play the guitar at the time he was very influenced by one of the few latinos that played rock and pop music at the time Ritchie Valens. Carlos later ended up listening to B. b. King and many other blues players.
He moved to Tijuana, Mexico with his family which bordered California and later moved again to San Francisco and graduated Middle and High school, He was accepted into 3 different colleges California State University, Northridge, and Humboldt State University but turned them down.
While living in San Francisco he got witness his idol at the time B.b. King play and also got to witness the hippie act starting up around the same time there which was very influential which introduced him to a lot of new genres of music like Psychedelic Rock and Folk.
Carlos Santana is one of the most well known guitarists for his famous Latin Rock mix/ folk songs and has influenced an enormous amount of artists today. He has won 2 Best rock instrumental performance awards and has been nominated for 4. He has his name on the hollywood walk of fame and won best album of the year in 1996. Carlos Santana still plays today and will forever be one of the best Latin Rock guitarists of all time.
